Just saw this as am about to get V10 and am not sure if you resolved the crashing issue. Been a while since I have used MS - think it was V6 something. But seem to remember that I also had a crashing problem and in my case I resolved it by deleting all the msfl files in the A-Z folders. I wrote a batch file to do all the folders that saved a fair bit of time

It is great if you have good computer skills to get around different problems.

I am not so lucky, not that I did not have time to improve my computer skills, I just didn’t do it.

hmmmm now my MS 7.02 is starting to crash...often, about 5 times an hour or more.

Was V10 the answer or are we buying into another dud.

From what I understand, Equis improved areas of Metastock's security from the producer's point of view, and now updated version works with new Windows Vista operating system.

Of course, they put in RMO trading system, which in my opinion is just another shot at swing trading.

I do not have Metastock 10

Hi

Equis have announced that Metastock prior to version 8 is not compatible with Windows XP and they have therefore stopped providing support for Metastocks of said versions.

I understand that there are some here that have used MS6-7 for a number of years on XP without a hitch but suddenly experiencing crashes. As mentioned before the program is expected to be unstable on XP.

The only long term solutions is to upgrade to a later version either MS v10 (for XP) or MS v10.1 (for Vista).

A short term solution (that has worked for a small number of people) is to reinstall MS7.02. I call this a "jackpot solution" as some have tried to reinstall it about 6 times before it got running again. You might want to go down that path. smile

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I too have suffered with the move from 7.02 to 8.01 for all the same reasons that people have mentioned. That was back when I was still running 95 and after a few weeks, I uninstalled it and went back to 7.02. When 9 came out I phoned up Paritech and spoke to them about it but it seems the things which make 7.02 useful are still not back so never upgraded. I now run on XP and dont get any new issues. The one really bad issue I do get is always related to number of files within the directory and it seems to be caused by all the warrants which never get cleaned up properly. Here is the procedure I use to sort it out (its not that much fun)
1) run the downloader and start menu option Tools > Test
2) Under options turn off reporting of the following errors
1081
1091
1102
Also set max errors to as high as allowed
3) Use the browse button to select e.g. AU-ASX\A (you then need to do this 26 times)
4) Dont try to select individual stocks, just click on test - you will get a prompt asking whether you want to check all securities
5) Look through the report and identify any securities with multiple and serious looking errors
6) If you try to open the security in either Metastock or the Downloader it will crash
7) Make a note of the ones with these errors and then delete them (I just use Metastock for this)
8) Check through the folder for any other security which is not required (in my case I remove most of the warrants).
9) Use DataDirector to re-download the history for any securities which were corrupt and are still required.

Regards,
Brenton
