1. Many stock merges must be done manually because of the tick in the open interest box. Can this be fixed ? 2. Update the distribution files automatically at least weekly. (additions/deletions/sector reassignments) 3. Allow the indices (other than the Paritech ones) to be included in the ASX Indices Sectors distribution list. Because they have no volume they don't get updated I seem to remember.

Congrats. to Grotty for your suggestions for inclusion in DD3. Wouldn't it be great if the paritech guys could produce the goods as I also have similar thoughts as yourself about what is required to make the process easier.

I follow the GICS and used to grouped all my securities by GICS. For DD3 could you give users this option in the distribution list. It would be really great.

What is the timeframe for developing DD3?
(I've just had a look at Norgate: they seem to have what I want)

I have had a tremendously difficult time understanding how the database structure works with profiles and filters etc. using the installation instructions for DD and database configuration instructions given to me by Paritech with the history CD. I subscribed almost a year ago but have never properly understood it. I have just spent 3 days trying to get it all installed and up to date again but the instructions I have conflict with the pdf or don't match what I see on screen.
Nearly everything I click on in DD with the HELP pointer returns an error 129 - no topic found. The help pages aren't very helpful when it gets to the expert/advanced nitty gritty details. Please can you include help topics for EVERY button, list box, drop down box etc. that a user can change, that says what it does and WHY?
Can someone please put together an 'administrators guide' to DD complete with screenshots (yes, I know of the pdf documents on the web site - I already have become suitably confused with them). Also, can Paritech please add a DD version history page complete with every bug fix, revision and feature enhancement for the purposes of tracking changes.
What I would love is a web page in addition to the 'HOW TO...' in DD that gives the WHY and WHAT FOR. I still don't fully understand the architecture of the database, and the update process from start to finish. I have nothing to judge whether it's working properly against. An architectural overview diagram showing the database structure and the update process would be very helpful.
I also agree with everything that the others have said - automatic symbol updates for newly listed and delisted stocks/funds etc., stock splits, bonus issues, profile changes when a stock drops out of or jumps into an index...
This could be a really great product.
Thank you.

Hi, A few suggestions re. DD3 wish list. 1. Quite a few of the suggestions re DD2 are still relevant here (see http://www.paritech.com.au/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=000006;p=2#000019 ) My post there highlights the steps necessary at the moment to setup your own profiles. A greaterrange of Paritech provided and updated profiles would be great. 2. An automated update the distribution profiles is sorely needed. This site manages to be updated nightly with GICs information and additions and delistings so it is possible - http://www.users.bigpond.com/prominex/pegasus.htm. 3. One of thw most frustrating things with many programs is not being able to extract information to a spreadsheet - eg. say I want to estract all listings over the last year - As DD has the tools to handle this data, couldn't a means of exporting it be added. Best of all would be if it could act as a HTTP server with a range of queries. 4. The abilty to nominate on the setup screen either today OR yesterday in the "Download Date Range" box to suit same-day OR Overnight customers. all the best

One other thing, the front end GUI should flow more intuitively - from the point of view of how the download process works. When downloading history into a new DB, the DB setup should follow something like this:
Which exchange is the data source from? (NSYE, LSE, AMEX, AUX, SFE, OS Indices, etc.) Are you installing historical data? (CD, PT Web, folder, etc.) Where is it going? (a-z, sector, industry, other folders etc.) What application will you use to view it? (MS, OMNI, HOTRADER, EXCEL (CSV) etc.)
I think that explains what I mean.
Cheers.

Sorry, one last(ish) thing...
It would be so useful to be able to simple view DB contents from DD just to check what's in there and if it's up to date, rather than having to open up Windows Explorer or another program to check.
This would make it quicker and easier to check whether an operation has completed properly (such as download or copy) within DD.
Thanks.

Paritech Support,
Had a brain ripple. There is something that would be really, really useful in DD3: a reporting function.
I want to run the following reports and more on my entire stock database or one or more selected DB's therein:
List all symbols and their attributes; List all databases (and their structure/attributes - e.g. symbol count, format, size, last updated, subfolders etc.); List all symbols out of date (i.e. last date is old) and by how much; List all symbols not updated on last download; List all downloaded symbols without a home to goto (no destination DB for that symbol yet); List all symbols by attribute (e.g. by exchange, format, size, security type such as ord. share/option/warrant/expiration/last date etc.)
Should (must) have dynamic sorting by column header (but also tiered sorting - by x, then by y, then by z etc.)
Pretty much a very configurable reporting dialog that can reference any database object by any field. It should come with a list of standard preconfigured reports that can be added to and exported.
Export function for report results, but also for database contents/symbol history.
In addition to the reporting function, it would be good to be able to autogenerate distribution list files using a wizard and also have the option of downloading distribution profile updates and running a database redistribution (for things such as FTSE 100 where constituents change).
At the end of the day, if our data is not right how can we trade?
I think more confidence and functionality needs to be built into DD3. I see DD3 as being possibly an extremely good tool set, one of the best available if Paritech chooses.
Cheers.

Sorry,
One other thing, the reporting should have the functionality for me not only to sort by x, then y thenz, but also (firstly) LIST by a, then b, then c. ---------------------------- E.G.
Report 1 - Example Databases/Folders to Include: 1-All List by: 1-Exchange -> Sort: Asc. 2-Class -> Sort: Asc. 3-Sector -> Sort: Asc. Filter expression: 1-Last Date < yesterdays date
Display as: Spreadsheet/indented column list etc. --------------------------- I think you get the idea.
It would be great to have the option of running a "Download Errors" report telling me what wasn't updated properly and why. The first step in the download process would be to build a list of symbols that I am about to update generated from the databases I have selected for updating, then run the download, then check the results against the list to see what didn't update.
Another really useful function would be to have a "compare/check my data" function that simply runs a comparison against Paritechs databases to check that my subscribed list of symbols matches the list of symbols that my Paritech account subscription shows and that then compares last date and maybe first date to sanity check my symbol status.
Thanks for your time.
