OmniTrader 2004 International User’s Guide

Due to OmniTrader being geared specifically for the US markets, International users will find that OT2004 will not produce SIG’s (Signal’s), ADV (Advisor ratings), BTHR (Back test hit rate) etc on many stocks as well as producing odd results such as data not appearing. This can be attributed to the differences in stock values and default system settings within OT2004. To overcome this Paritech has been in consultation with Nirvana and under their guidance, Paritech has been able to construct a set of definitions/options that will improve the SIG’s, ADV, BTHR etc that OT generates as well as improving the overall conditions that OmniTrader 2004 produces. The definitions/options below were created using OmniTrader 2004 release 3a.

  1. Before registering OmniTrader use the product in demo mode. Once registered the OmniTrader Licence is transferred to you and returns cannot be accepted. For all OmniTrader clients it is recommended that the OT program is firstly registered in accordance with the Nirvana manual.

  2. After OT has officially been registered please ensure that you have the latest release of the program. To do this you must firstly be connected to the Internet then simply click on Start then on Programs then on the OT2004 folder and finally on OmniTrader Updater (see image below). You will now simply need to follow the on screen prompts to get the latest release.

  1. Now that OmniTrader has been registered and updated to the latest release you will need to follow a few simple step before Using OmniTrader.

STEP BY STEP USER GUIDE

The configuration of the Easy Data Database causes symbols that are trading on international markets to display data with incorrect dates in OT’s charts.  Due to the configuration of the Easy Data Database, any symbols contained there will always default to the US exchange they are set to.  To work around the issue, you can delete the symbols from the Easy Data Database that overlap with your user data symbols (see image below). You can delete all of the symbols contained in the Easy Data Database following the instructions.

           1.  Click the pencil icon in the Focus List

           2.  Select Easy as the data source

           3.  Select the US Stocks Tab

           4.  Highlight the symbol at the top of the list

           5.  Drag the scroll bar on the right side of the database window half way down the page

           6.  Hold down Shift and select the bottom symbol

           7.  Once all the symbols are highlighted, click the Delete button at the bottom

           8.  Repeat steps 4-7 for remaining symbols

           9.  Click OK to save the changes

10. Again click the pencil icon in the Focus List, hi light any default stock remaining in the focus list  and click the “Remove” button then OK. This will now leave you with a blank Focus List

  1. You should now also set your default exchange according to the market you are trading.   For example, if you are trading stocks on the ASX, you would set your default exchange under Edit, Exchange Information to that market. To do this in OmniTrader you will need to click on Edit then on Exchange Information. You will then need to locate your appropriate exchange, in this instance it is Country AU Exchange ASX, click on it to hi light and click the  “SET” button on the top right hand corner of the Exchange Information window.

  1. You are now set to re configure the Strategies field in the To Do List. To do this, in OmniTrader click on VIEW then on TO DO LIST. You will see “Default” pre selected (see image below).

  1. You may now proceed to re configure Strategy Voting. To do this click on the Strategy Voting Button. Under the Performance parameters please ensure that you have selected identical settings as in the image below. Signal Generation can be left as is.

  2. The next step is to select TEST SETTINGS. In Profit calculation ensure that $ per Share is selected. Then set Slippage, Entry Commission and Exit Commission to 0 (zero) (see image below).

  3. The next step is to click on the EDIT button. An Editing window will appear for the Default Settings (see image below).

  4. In this window double click “59 Systems” and in the Systems window that appears ensure that “Use Reversing Signal” is selected then click OK (see image below).

  5. Back in the “Editing Defaults” window now double click on Performance and in the Rank BY field select “Hit Rate” and click OK (see image below).

  6. Back in the “Editing Defaults” window now double click on Vote and ensure that “Optimize Advisor cut off using” is set to Hit Rate then click OK. (see image below).

  7. Back in the “Editing Defaults” window double click on “Orders” (you may need to use the  scroll bar in order to see this option) which is the last option in the Editing Defaults windows and an “ORDERS” window will appear. In this window click the “Exits” tab and here deselect all option and ensure you only select the “Reversing Signals parameter then click OK. In the Editing Defaults window you may now click OK. In doing so you are taken back to the “TO DO LIST” where you may either elect to run the TO DO LIST (assuming that you have already added a number of stocks the Focus List) or alternatively you may click OK and then restart OT.

PLEASE NOTE: You are now set to use OT2004 on the Australian stock market or other Markets following the same logic. Please bear in mind that these changes have been made under the guidance and recommendation of Nirvana and are in no way a definitive reconstruction of OmniTrader program by Paritech. All clients are at liberty to change any settings in OmniTrader to their liking or as they see fit.

In general, you should always confirm the data with an independent source before acting upon it and it should only be used by investors who are aware of the risk inherent in securities trading.
