Merging Two Securities
When a stock changes it's name, you will receive data under the new
code and cease receiving data under the old code. In order to have a
continuous chart, you will need to merge the stocks. Although for
Australian data, this is handled by Database Maintenance, you may
need to merge securities manually for whatever reason (i.e. missed
maintenance, duplication of data, etc).
Important: you should back up your data before merging, as a
merge is not reversible.
- Start the Downloader for Windows.
- Click the Tools Menu and choose Merge. You will see a window
split into two parts, the Source is on the left, and the
Destination is on the right.
- Before choosing the securities to merge, click the
Options... button and check that the settings are as follows:

You may also tick Delete Source Security if you do not want the
oldest data to remain in your database under the old code.
- Select the Source security from the list of securities
on the left. This is the security with the oldest data (the old
name/code). You may need to click the Browse button first to
locate the folder where this security resides.
- Select the Destination security from the list of
securities on the right This is the security with the most
current data (the new name/code). You may need to click the Browse
button first to locate the folder where this security resides.
- Click the Merge button. You will be asked to confirm if
you want to continue with the merge.
