MetaStock
Changing the Default Template
The default way to use MetaStock is to work with smart charts.
Smart charts are easy to use, as any changes you make will be
automatically saved with the chart when you close it, making any
indicators you have added available for future use.
However, when you open a security that you have not opened, it will
open with what is referred to as the default template. The
initial default template that comes with MetaStock is very plain,
and many users would like to have some indicators included by
default, or perhaps change the colour scheme.
To do this, all you need to do is change the default template.
- Open any chart from your database (it doesn't matter if you
have opened it before)
- Add any indicators you wish to add and make any other changes
accordingly (i.e. colours, new inner windows, etc)
- Right click on an empty area of the chart and choose Save
as Default Template.
- You will be prompted if you want to over-write your existing
default template. Choose Yes to this.
Charts you have already opened
Once you have changed your default template, you will find that
any charts you have previously opened will still have their previous
look about them. If you wish to change the default template for these
as well, the simplest way to do so is to reset your templates. This
can be done as follows:
- Close MetaStock down if you have it open
- Click Start > Find > Files and Folders
- In the Name box type MSSmart (this is the name of the
folder which contains information on how charts look)
- Click the Find button
- A list of files will come up. Delete these files.
Next time you open your charts, they will come up with your new
default template.
